East Texas CPA Educational Fund Scholarship Application

The East Texas CPA Educational Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization whose primary purpose is to provide educational scholarships to accounting students based upon financial need and academic achievement.

TXCPA East Texas awards several scholarships to accounting students this year through its East Texas CPA Educational Fund.

East Texas CPA Educational Fund, Inc. Scholarship Criteria

An applicant for the scholarship must:

  1. Be a full-time college student at the junior, senior or graduate level.  (A sophomore may apply if the award is to be made at the start of the junior year.)
  2. Have an overall GPA and accounting GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all college work undertaken. 
  3. Have completed 9 hours of accounting as of December 2024. (Principles of accounting can count toward the 9 hours).
  4. Be either (a) a permanent resident of the area served by TXCPA East Texas or (b) attend, or plan to attend during the scholarship period, a college in the TXCPA East Texas area.  The TXCPA East Texas area is composed of the following 20 counties: Anderson, Angelina, Cherokee, Freestone, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Houston, Marion, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood.
  5. Be a declared accounting major actively pursuing courses that meet CPA exam eligibility requirements. NOTE: Students in specialized accounting programs (e.g., corporate or enterprise accounting) that do not fulfill CPA exam requirements are not eligible to apply.

The award shall be for a period of one academic year, payable one half in the fall semester and one half in the spring semester.  The recipient will only need to provide evidence of continued qualification for the spring semester award.  Scholarship payments are mailed directly to the educational institution the recipient is attending.

The recipient of the award may apply for succeeding awards if the criteria are met.

Winners will be selected based on academic record and the ability to make a contribution to the accounting profession.  The judgment of the selection committee will be final.

A full-time undergraduate student is one who is enrolled for a minimum of 24 semester credit hours from June 2025 through May 2026.   A full-time graduate student is one who is enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours in each semester of enrollment.  A junior is a student who has completed 60 or more semester credit hours.

Completed applications and any accompanying documents should be received by TXCPA East Texas no later than March 7, 2025. Letters of recommendation may be sent separately by the recommender to easttexas@tx.cpa but must be received by the deadline. Incomplete and/or late applications may not be considered.

  1. Personal Statement: Provide a separate document explaining why you believe you should receive this scholarship.
  2. Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic abilities. One letter must be from a department faculty member at your current college. If a recommender will send the letter separately, please indicate their name in your application.
  3. Current Resume: Include a professional resume.
  4. Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded with your application. Official transcripts from each college attended must be sent to easttexas@tx.cpa by the application deadline.
