Members can participate in any of over 20 TXCPA Houston committees. You can benefit by networking with your peers, contributing to the organization's success, and building skills in public speaking, event coordination, and leadership. Committee terms are for one year, June 1 – May 31; however, members can join at any time. TXCPA membership as a CPA, CPA-Candidate, Student, or Affiliate is required. Complete and submit this committee Volunteer Form and we’ll contact you with recommended opportunities.
TXCPA Houston Committees - Open to Volunteers
CPE RELATED COMMITTEES
- All committees usually hold monthly one-hour meetings unless otherwise specified.
- Staff Liaison: Nicole Lartigue, unless otherwise specified.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
1. Event Planning: Collaborate with fellow committee members to plan and organize half-day seminars and other educational events. All committees will be recommending topics and speakers for the two summits that are held annually.
2. Content Development: Contribute your expertise to develop engaging and informative content for our programs.
3. Networking: Build valuable connections within the wealth management community and foster collaboration among professionals.
Accounting and Auditing
This committee focuses on issues facing public filers and information coming from the accounting regulatory agencies (SEC, FASB, PCAOB).
Business and Industry
The committee works to identify the needs of those in business and industry and proposes ideas to address the potential solutions.
CFO/Controller
CFO/Controller Committee meets to address the concerns of financial professionals in industry. This committee will also be hosting quarterly peer groups to for roundtable discussions and education.
CPE
The committee sets all continuing education-related policies for TXCPA Houston programs and assists with screening topics and presentations as needed.
CPE by the Sea
CPE by the Sea in June is a three-day conference in Galveston in partnership with TXCPA.
Energy
Energy Committee meets to identify the concerns of those working in the energy sector. This committee will be
Forensic and Valuation Services
Niche industry members develop CPE content and other information to inform members of current issues related to forensic, valuation, and litigation services.
Healthcare
Currently inactive. Members may specify their interest in coordinating CPE and other information to inform members of current issues for financial professionals in the healthcare industry. Some topics are covered in other conferences.
Financial Planning and Wealth Management
This committee will be focusing on providing education about recent financial planning and wealth management topics for all ages.
Tax Committee
Tax Committee focuses on addressing the topics that tax practitioners need to know and understand.

LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS
Staff Liaison: Carol Spencer
PAC Steering/ Public Affairs – the committee is responsible for PAC fundraising, coordinating contributions to Texas legislative candidates, administering the Houston-area key person, and stimulating interests in political affairs.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEES

Accounting Career Education – an active subcommittee of CPAs Helping Schools, volunteers visit K-12 classrooms, or college career fairs, and share age-appropriate information about a future career in accounting. Volunteers have an opportunity to serve as judges, or presenters, in local high school business workshops.

Circular 230 Practitioners Roundtable – the committee develops alliances with federal, state, and local taxing agencies, providing an opportunity for professionals to express practitioner positions, resolve systemic issues, and initiate a collaborative effort for improved taxpayer experiences.

Diversity & Inclusion - The committee educates members and the public on the importance of diversity and how their organizations can become more inclusive.
- Volunteers review all activities and offerings of TXCPA Houston for inclusiveness and recommend ways to engage members of all backgrounds and encourage their participation in leadership roles.

Membership/Community Service – volunteers assist with member recruitment, engagement, and retention.
- Review monthly member statistics from TXCPA
- Coordinate networking or social events

- Participate in the semi-annual TSBPA swearing-in ceremony in Austin
- Organize community service activities throughout the year
- Offers MS Access-based auction database system for nonprofit fundraising event checkout

Student Auxiliary Steering – committee members assist the student officers with planning monthly career panel discussions and serve as mentors to the officers.
- June full-day retreat to onboard the new officers and plan the full year of activities
- Meets monthly on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
Young Professionals/ Community Service – volunteers coordinate networking events, community service activities, and educational programs for those under the age of 40.

PHILANTHROPIC COMMITTEES

Accounting Scholarship – members are responsible for reviewing scholarship applications and selecting recipients annually. Members may serve as liaisons to communicate with university faculty.

Accounting Scholarship Endowment – develops ongoing initiatives to increase the current endowment funds to become an autonomous resource for scholarships in the future.

CPAs Helping Schools – works with PreK-12 schools to improve educational opportunities for students. Oversees subcommittees for Accounting Career Education, Grants, and Funding.

- Reviews grant applications twice a year
- Hosts Partners in Education Reception in January
- Maintains communication with local school districts
- Funding subcommittee – coordinates fall fundraiser event, silent auction at the extravaganza, and other fundraising opportunities; seeks funding from other foundations.
- Accounting Career Education subcommittee – shares accounting career information with students of all ages.
Scholarship Extravaganza – gala to support the accounting scholarship program. Volunteers solicit funding from corporate sponsors and individuals.

TXCPA Houston Committees – by presidential appointment only
Governance committee membership is controlled by the organization’s bylaws, and members are appointed by the president or through the nominations committee for approval by the Chapter membership. Meetings are held as needed.
Audit – responsible for selecting a CPA firm to audit TXCPA Houston and the Foundation each year and reporting the audit results to the Board of Directors.
Finance – responsible for reviewing the annual budget before submission to the Executive Committee and Board.
Investments – responsible for reviewing the investment portfolio and ensuring it adheres to the TXCPA Houston Foundation investment policy.
Nominations – responsible for selecting a slate of nominees to present at the Annual Meeting of Members for general membership approval.
Personnel – responsible for personnel matters regarding compensation, personnel policies and benefits, and evaluation of the executive director.
Strategic Planning – responsible for long-range strategic goals for TXCPA Houston.
