Volunteer

TXCPA Austin has a number of opportunities for Members to become more involved in the chapter, the profession and the community. Individual committees and task forces are listed under their appropriate subject headings.

Accounting Career Exploration
This committee administers the Accounting Career Awareness Program, in which CPAs visit area schools to tell students about the variety of career opportunities available with an accounting degree. This is how we help preserve the future of the profession, recruiting the best and the brightest.

Business & Industry
This group organizes specialized programs and CPE for CPA members in business, industry, government and education.

Community Involvement
Nothing is more rewarding than giving back to the great community in which we live. The Community Involvement task force meets a few times throughout the year to think up great ways to support charitable organizations. Our projects range from building houses to toy drives to raising money by walking 5Ks.  Stacey Mahajan, CPA, Committee Chair

Continuing Professional Education
CPAs must earn a certain amount of continuing education hours per year in order to maintain their license. The CPE committee is in charge of our annual course catalog and tax conference. If you are interested in the latest accounting topics, know great speakers or just want more information regarding the committee, please contact the Austin chapter at austin@tx.cpa.  Jason Lucio, CPA, Committee Chair

Financial Literacy
TXCPA Austin plays an important role in TXCPA’s statewide Financial Literacy campaign. The Financial Literacy task force is always looking for new members to carry out programs, including training nonprofit boards, faith communities and more.

Leaders Emerging in the Accounting Profession (LEAP)
The TXCPA Austin’s robust Leaders Emerging in the Accounting Profession (LEAP) is a group of emerging CPAs, CPA candidates, accounting students and other up and coming professionals focused on career development, growth, leadership, networking and making a contribution to TXCPA Austin/Texas Society of CPAs, the profession and the community. Our members participate in a mix of social and business/professional development activities, which include networking events, group outings, business seminars, speaker engagements, business roundtables, volunteer opportunities and social functions. Aarika Anderson, CPA, Committee Chair

Membership
TXCPA Austin gets new Members all the time, and we make sure new and existing Members have the latest information about benefits, volunteer opportunities, and all the other resources available to them as chapter members.  Sarah Loghin, CPA, Committee Chair.

Public Affairs
TXCPA Austin’s Public Affairs committee researches candidates for legislative office in the chapter area, deciding where your PAC donations go and making recommendations to the statewide PAC.  Matt Malcom, CPA, Committee Chair.

Scholarships
TXCPA Austin’s scholarship program began in 2005. Scholarships of $500 – $2,500 will be awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee based on applicant’s qualifications, with the highest award being the Bette Williams Scholarship. This committee also plans the fundraising events for our scholarship program.  Jeremy Myers, CPA, Committee Chair.

Student/College Activities
This group will work throughout the year to develop programs and activities conducive to preparing students for the CPA profession. Activities could include participation in panel discussions at campuses; networking events specifically geared toward students; providing mentor/student program; encouraging students to become TXCPA members and apply for the chapter’s scholarships. Larry Stephens, CPA, Committee Chair
