The success of a chapter is measured largely by the work of its committees and by its efforts to involve a diverse group of members as chapter committee volunteers.

Community Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach Committee supports chapter-led service and networking initiatives throughout the year. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating two community service projects, including participation in CPA Month of Service
  • Hosting social events for members and students
  • Continuing the chapter’s school supply drive, in partnership with the School Tools Program

 

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Committee

The CPE Committee plans and delivers relevant professional education opportunities for TXCPA Southeast Texas members across public accounting and industry. Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing the CPE Breakfast Series, including topic selection, speaker recommendations, pricing, and logistics
  • Providing input on additional courses offered through the TXCPA CPE Partnership Agreement, including suggested topics and speakers

 

Pipeline Committee

The Pipeline Committee supports TXCPA Southeast Texas in advancing the profession by strengthening the pipeline of future CPAs. Working in alignment with the state’s pipeline initiative, this committee promotes accounting careers, the CPA license, and financial literacy throughout the region.

 2025 Goal:
Engage at least 550 students across elementary, middle, and high schools, junior colleges, and universities.

 Outreach & Education

  • Connect with contacts at local schools and colleges to coordinate presentations and career fair participation (outreach will occur twice a year).
  • Host a booth at the Southeast Texas Youth Career Expo.
  • Develop a list of middle schools for future outreach.
  • Schedule student events during Accounting Opportunities Month (November and April).
  • Participate in Lamar University’s Meet the Firms and plan a Lamar-based networking event (e.g., CPA Panel, CPA Chats, or a Beta Alpha Psi co-hosted meeting).

Note: The board has opted to pause the annual tailgate party this year to prioritize these targeted outreach efforts.

 Scholarship Fundraising

  • Support local scholarship efforts with a $2,500 fundraising goal.
  • Set a campaign timeline and create an online donation link.
  • Coordinate with the chapter president to send appeal letters to firms and companies.
  • Share regular email updates with members encouraging support and sponsorship.
  • Identify Lamar University accounting classes where the scholarship can be promoted.

 

Regulatory and Legislative Committee

The Regulatory and Legislative Committee helps keep TXCPA Southeast Texas members informed and engaged in matters that impact the accounting profession at the state level.

 Responsibilities:

  • Work with TXCPA to manage chapter-level fundraising efforts supporting the CPA-PAC.
  • Share timely updates with members on current, proposed, and potential legislation that may affect CPAs and the broader profession.
  • Collaborate with TXCPA to educate lawmakers on the value and role of CPAs in Texas through outreach and legislative engagement.
  • Organize opportunities for state legislators to attend chapter meetings and hear directly from members about the profession’s priorities.
  • Work alongside TXCPA’s CPA-PAC to facilitate contributions and support CPA-friendly candidates.
